A rugged leather messenger bag for the adventurous at heart, this satchel is just as perfect for carrying 16-inch laptops across the city as it is for stashing the golden idol you just found in that booby-trapped temple.

Designed in partnership with a renowned Indonesian bagmaker, we crafted this messenger with large pieces of leather and as few seams as possible for two reasons: it gives it fewer potential failure points, and it just looks better.

But this bag is much more complex than it looks, featuring:

  • Load-bearing straps that encircle the bag help keep the leather from getting stretched out
  • A closure flap that folds over the corners to protect the interior from rain and dust
  • A strap to slip over the handles of your rolling luggage
  • A rear slip pocket for stashing magazines and files
  • An articulated shoulder pad to disperse load and increase comfort when in use
  • A padded laptop sleeve with two slip pockets sewn on top
  • A zippered internal pocket
  • A stud closure system that's surprisingly secure and easy to open and close on the go. (Note: the studs will be stiff at first, especially on cognac and black bags — they'll soften up with use.)

We've wear tested this bag on three continents and counting, and it stays closed whether you’ve checked it for an international flight or slung it over your back for a full day on your feet.

Heads up:  like most heavily waxed and dyed leathers, this leather may transfer dye when it's worn against lighter colored clothing. It's most likely to happen when it's hot and/or wet (we've mostly noticed it on sweaty t-shirts).

We apply a special sealant to our belts and shoulder straps to mitigate the issue, and it helps a lot. In any case, we've found the dye washes out surprisingly easily.

  • Tanned and finished in Tennessee and processed in Wisconsin by Gallun Leathers
  • Hide Origin: Wild boar, full sides of US origin
  • Grain: Unique grain and extreme pore pattern

All our leather is made from the hides of invasive wild boar that were trapped or hunted in the south and southwest of the United States. These hides are processed in Wisconsin and combination tanned in Tennessee to produce a material that has the ideal balance of density and weather resistance.

We sell three colors of leather and they're made two different ways: Cognac and Black are the full grain "Jabari" version that retains the outer layer of the animal's skin, so it's smooth while also exhibiting the most scarring and character from the animal's life.

The Waxy Boar tannage we use for the Chocolate leather is a little more velvety to the touch because it’s been slightly buffed, exposing more skin fibers. Gallun Leathers uses sandpaper to remove a tiny part of the skin’s outer layer before rolling several layers of wax onto it.

In short: the Chocolate leather is softer, shows a bit less scarring, and actually looks more textured and "worn in" when it's new.
